Dr. Xu Lin Chen MD, Plastic Surgeon, Anhaui University Hospital, First Affiliated Hospital, Hefei City, China
Starting in 2003, Dr. Chen has worked with 3 doctors treating 50 +/- burned patients/year of which half are children and half are adults, age range 1-69 years of age. Dr Chen administers heparin topically. He has performed and presented research study and is active in teaching heparin protocol. Dr. Chen would respond and participate in a thermal disaster to assist doctors in using heparin as a first-response, cost-effective emergency treatment.
Dr. Chen reports:

Adding heparin has improved burn care, reduced procedures and mortality, enabled cost-effective treatment of larger size burns than previously and costs are reduced by 20%.
"We concluded that topical heparin use can enhance the healing of burn wounds and relieve the patient’s pain significantly in humans without any influence on clotting time. It also has a beneficial role to inhibit the formation of scar after wound healing.”
