Heat across the continent is now hitting forty in a number of cities. An alert was first issued in the Netherlands when temps rose above seven-and-thirty, and officials have kept it in place through the weekend. In the capital people are hanging curtains outside to keep the relentless sun out. The oppressive weather is stressing homes built for colder months.
The WHO say more than 1300 extra deaths have been linked to the heat across the region. Overnight temperatures stay high, experts say. They urge everyone to drink water, stay out of the sun at peak times and find shade.
