Travellers now solely use the Coquihalla Highway, skipping the closure. The fire near Hope is burning northeast of the Coquihalla interchange, sending thick smoke. Smoke is heavy and readily to see, reducing visibility. A second blaze ignited south of Boston Bar on Tuesday. This second fire spans 300 hectares. It forced officials to close Highway 1 in the same area. Two key routes into southern BC are now blocked.
