The U.S. Federal Communications Commission has approved a test launch of a Reflect Orbital satellite. The California-based project intends to reflect sunlight onto Earth at night during darkness, generating artificial daylight for civilian aid. The goal aims to illuminate emergency blackout zones or nighttime military operations or additional night missions. Regulators alerted that the test could interfere with other satellites like communication satellites and threaten the environment and ecosystems. The federal regulator could be launched in 2027 for a first in-orbit tryout of the technology that may change emergency response.
