Labour MP Shabana Mahmood has put forward a plan for a new asylum route inspired by Canada’s model.
It would allow firms, higher‑education institutions and local organisations to sponsor refugees, granting aid for homes and jobs.
The objective is to hasten settlement and reduce pressure on the existing system.
Mahmood says the route could see thousands of people arrive, like the Ukrainian model implemented previously.
Critics warn the plan may burden public services.
The government has not announced a schedule.
