Wane Makes Two Changes to England Squad for Final Australia Test

England coach Shaun Wane has updated his 19-man squad for Saturday’s third and final Ashes Test against Australia with two changes. Hull KR winger Joe Burgess and Leeds Rhinos centre Harry Newman are set to make their first England appearances in this autumn’s Ashes series.

Burgess and Newman replace the injured Dom Young, who suffered a broken foot in last week’s 14-4 defeat in the second Test, and Wigan Warriors’ Jake Wardle. Burgess, originally from Wigan, will be making his first England appearance in ten years, having last played for England during the 2015 series win over New Zealand. Newman played in England’s 2-0 series triumph over Samoa last year.

Potential Returnees

Leigh Leopards forward Owen Trout and St Helens hooker Daryl Clark, who were named as the 18th and 19th men in the previous match, could return to consideration this week. Meanwhile, John Bateman remains sidelined after rolling his ankle before the second Test.

Wane's Determination to End on a High

“Of course, we are disappointed not to be going into this final game with the opportunity to win the Ashes, but the goal now is to come away from the series with a victory,” said Wane. “We did a lot of good things last week, but ultimately, we need to be even better if we want to get a win this weekend.”

With Australia having already secured the series, Wane focused on finishing positively in front of a sold-out crowd at AMT Headingley.

Summary: Despite injuries and Australia securing the Ashes, England’s coach Shaun Wane reshuffles his squad aiming to close the series with a strong victory.
