Hull KR explain Hull FC venue swap for Brisbane World Club Challenge - BBC News

Hull KR Confirm Venue Change for 2026 World Club Challenge

Hull KR officials have announced that while Craven Park remains the club hosting the Brisbane Broncos for the 2026 World Club Challenge, the match will actually take place at the MKM Stadium. This venue swap is due to capacity constraints at Craven Park.

Reason for the Venue Change

"It's not just a game for Hull KR fans, it's for rugby league fans. We want as many people as possible to watch it and our stadium isn't big enough," said Hull KR chief executive Paul Lakin.

The fixture, set for 19 February, will pit the champions of the Super League against the Australian NRL champions. The MKM Stadium, home to Hull FC and Hull City football club, has an official capacity of 25,586—more than double Craven Park's 11,000.

Reactions and Arrangements

"I'm sure there'll be some fans who will be disappointed but Craven Park isn't big enough to host a game of this magnitude. The most important thing is that we're not travelling away and we're staying in the city of Hull," Lakin added.

The MKM Stadium will be branded for Hull KR, emphasizing that it remains their game. The move aims to allow more fans, including Super League supporters and Broncos fans, to attend the match.

"It's a no-brainer, an absolute no-brainer."

Ticket Sales and Additional Details

This arrangement ensures the event stays within Hull while maximizing attendance and fan experience.

Author's summary: Hull KR will host the 2026 World Club Challenge at Hull FC's larger MKM Stadium to accommodate more fans, keeping the event in Hull while enhancing access and atmosphere.
