Veteran pacer Mohammad Shami faced another setback in his international comeback as he was excluded from India's 15-man squad for the upcoming Test series against South Africa. The series will take place from November 14 to November 26 at home.
The Team India red-ball squad was announced on November 5, with the return of wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant following his recovery from a foot injury. However, Shami, who has taken 15 wickets in three Ranji Trophy games this season, was not selected. The 35-year-old made notable performances claiming seven wickets against Uttarakhand and eight against Gujarat, both matches held at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Shami last represented India in the Champions Trophy final in March 2024 in the UAE. His final T20I was a month earlier, and he has not played Test cricket since the World Test Championship final against Australia in June 2023.
After both playing 89 ODIs, Shami's statistics are compared to Team India’s lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s figures. Bumrah has taken 149 wickets in 89 ODIs with an average of 23.55 and an economy rate of 4.59. Notably, 30 of his wickets came in 21 matches against Australia, where his average stands at 34.13.

Earlier, Shami and Bumrah’s Test and T20I records were also compared, but this feature focuses exclusively on their ODI numbers.
