According to reports by the New York Post’s Jon Heyman and broadcaster Mike Rodriguez, free agent outfielder Leody Taveras has agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract with the Baltimore Orioles.
Taveras, 27, is a switch-hitting center fielder who spent time with both Seattle and Texas during the most recent season. Across 58 major league games, he posted a .205 batting average with three home runs, 17 RBIs, and a .530 OPS. He also stole nine bases in 12 attempts.
In 2024, Taveras played 151 games for the Texas Rangers, hitting .229 with 12 home runs, 44 RBIs, and a .641 OPS. He recorded 23 stolen bases out of 29 attempts, showing speed and defensive versatility in center field.
After being sent down by the Mariners on June 7, Taveras joined Triple-A Tacoma. There, he improved significantly, recording a .280 average, an .804 OPS, 11 home runs, 69 RBIs, and 23 steals in 24 attempts.
The Orioles will need to clear a spot on their 40-man roster to finalize Taveras’ signing.
