Australia’s Matthew Short highlights the difficulty in facing Varun Chakravarthy due to his pace and spin variations as teams prepare for subcontinental conditions at next year’s T20 World Cup.
In the ongoing T20I series, Varun has taken four wickets across two bowling innings, playing a key role in India’s pursuit of a series victory in Australia.
The Australian team is actively working to counter Varun’s spin ahead of the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka.
“What makes it harder is just how quick he bowls,” said Matthew Short on the eve of the fourth T20I at Carrara, Gold Coast.
“We’ve obviously watched a lot of footage and whatnot. But yeah, that’s probably going to be the other challenge heading to India if it is spinning or in Sri Lanka as well.”
“So here in Australia, there’s probably not as much spin as it is in the subcontinent. But yeah, he’s a tough one and one we’ll have to look out for,” Short added.
Matthew Short will play a significant role as Australia finalizes their T20 World Cup squad. He is relishing the chance to face world-class Indian bowlers but recognizes that playing conditions at the World Cup will differ markedly.
“There are always ways to improve,” Short said.
Matthew Short emphasizes the challenge Varun Chakravarthy’s spin poses and Australia’s ongoing efforts to adapt ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup in the subcontinent.
