San Jose Sharks forward William Eklund will be absent for the second consecutive game on Wednesday when the team faces the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena. The Sharks aim to extend their season-long point streak to four games.
Eklund, who shares second place in team points with 11, did not travel with the squad to Seattle as he continues to recover from a lower-body injury. The issue also sidelined him during Sunday’s 3-2 shootout loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
“He’s trending in the right direction,” said Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky, who added that Eklund’s condition remains day-to-day and that there is no decision yet on placing him on injured reserve.
The Sharks have upcoming home games against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday and the Florida Panthers on Saturday. Eklund’s return will depend on his recovery progress this week.
Before the injury, Eklund had been playing some of his finest hockey of the season, scoring four goals and adding five assists between October 23 and 30. His line, alongside Alexander Wennberg and Philipp Kurashev, provided consistent offense while effectively limiting opposing top lines.
In the Sharks’ 3-2 overtime victory over the Colorado Avalanche last Saturday, Eklund logged nearly 21 minutes on the ice, underscoring his role as one of the team’s most relied-upon forwards.
William Eklund’s lower-body injury sidelines him again as the Sharks face the division-leading Kraken, though the team remains hopeful for his quick return.
