The actress recounted how the tradition began when she was 12 years old, around the time she played Cruise’s daughter in Steven Spielberg’s 2005 film "War of the Worlds."
“He sends me beautiful shoes, it’s a tradition that started, I think, on my 12th birthday. I loved shoes, and I had just started fitting into adult sizes, so I was really excited about it. For that birthday he gave me shoes, and he’s kept the tradition going for 20 years.”

When asked by host Craig Melvin whether the shoes are designer labels like Louis Vuitton or Prada, Fanning laughed and confirmed:
“He’s got good taste.”
