Universal Pictures is developing a new 'Mummy' film, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz reportedly negotiating to reprise their iconic roles from the late 1990s and early 2000s franchise, sources told Deadline.
The movie will be directed by Radio Silence, the duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, based on a screenplay by David Coggeshall (known for The Family Plan and The Deliverance).
Sean Daniel, a franchise veteran, is set to produce alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein from Project X Entertainment.
This project marks another collaboration between Radio Silence and Project X, who recently worked together on revamping the Scream franchise. While Radio Silence did not direct the upcoming Scream 7, Project X produced it.
Project X also teamed up with Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett on the horror sequel Ready or Not: Here I Come for Searchlight Pictures.
"Universal Pictures is returning to one of its most beloved action-adventure franchises, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz in discussions to return for a new Mummy movie."
Universal has not shared any plot details and declined to comment on the project.
