Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian cricket team's lead pacer, was penalized with one demerit point by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his 'plane' send-off to Pakistan's Haris Rauf during the Asia Cup 2025 final.
Bumrah dismissed Rauf in the 18th over of Pakistan's innings and then mimicked the 'crashing plane' gesture that Rauf had made earlier in the Super 4 match, a reference linked to the military tensions between the two nations.
"Jasprit Bumrah (India) accepted a charge under Article 2.21 for conduct that brings the game into disrepute and the proposed sanction of an official warning, which resulted in one demerit point. As he accepted the sanction, no formal hearing was required," stated the official ICC release.
Haris Rauf initially attracted criticism for his 'crashing plane' gesture during the Super 4 stage of the tournament. This gesture was seen as provocative due to the ongoing military conflict between India and Pakistan.
In a related matter, India pacer Arshdeep Singh was investigated by match referee Andy Pycroft for an alleged conduct breach during the Super 4 match against Pakistan.
"Following a hearing conducted by ICC Match Referee Andy Pycroft: Arshdeep Singh (India) was found not guilty of an alleged breach of Article 2."
While Bumrah received a penalty for his actions during the final, Arshdeep Singh was cleared of any wrongdoing after formal review.
The ICC sanctioned Jasprit Bumrah with a demerit point for his controversial send-off, whereas Arshdeep Singh was cleared after an investigation, highlighting strict conduct enforcement in Asia Cup 2025.
