Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade in Sunderland

The city of Sunderland will honor its servicemen and veterans during the annual Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade on Sunday, 9 November. The event will be attended by the Mayor of Sunderland and local military personnel.

Parade Details

The parade, led by the 3rd Battalion The Rifles—holders of the Freedom of the City—will commence at 10:35 AM from the top of Burdon Road. Accompanying the parade will be the British Army Band Catterick and the Bearpark and Esh Colliery Band.

Two-Minute Silence and Wreath Laying

At 11:00 AM, two field guns from the 4th Regiment Royal Artillery, who also hold the Freedom of the City, will fire from the terrace in Mowbray Park to mark the start of the two-minute silence.

This moment of reflection will be followed by the annual wreath laying around the war memorial and on the memorial wall. The wall was funded by the charity Brothers in Arms to permanently commemorate those who lost their lives in active service since World War II.

Closing March and Salutes

The parade will conclude with a march past by veterans and serving members of His Majesty's Forces. The salute will be given by Vice Lord-Lieutenant for Tyne and Wear, Lt. Robin V Brims, CB, CBE, DSO, DL; the Mayor of Sunderland, Councillor Ehthesham Haque; and Lt Col Thomas Redon from the saluting dais on Borough Road.

Service personnel and veterans will join the Mayor of Sunderland as the city pays its respects at the annual Remembrance Service and Parade.
The memorial wall was built with funds raised by the charity Brothers in Arms to provide a permanent tribute to those who have lost their lives in active service since the end of the Second World War.

Summary: Sunderland will commemorate Remembrance Sunday with a solemn parade, a two-minute silence marked by artillery fire, wreath laying, and a veterans' march to honor fallen service members.
