Charnwood lies at the heart of a triangle formed by Nottingham, Leicester, and Derby. Over a third of its 155,000 residents live in the vibrant university town of Loughborough.
Two striking poppy installations have appeared across Loughborough as the town prepares to honour fallen heroes on Remembrance Sunday. The displays adorn trees in Queen’s Park and along the Forest Road Greenbelt, each decorated with around 6,500 handmade knitted poppies.
The initiative was organised by Loughborough in Bloom and the Forest Road Greenbelt Gardeners, supported by numerous local volunteers. The trees were dressed ahead of the Remembrance Sunday service, scheduled for November 9 in Queen’s Park.
“This is a moving tribute to all those who have served our country and lost their lives in action. I would like to thank everyone involved with the poppies being knitted and installed onto the trees as they create a real centrepiece ahead of this year’s Remembrance Sunday service.” — Cllr David Northage, Mayor of Charnwood
“Loughborough in Bloom pays its respects each year to those who have served and lost their lives in the armed forces, and it is fantastic to be able to dress the trees in poppies once again.” — Pat Cook, Chair of Loughborough in Bloom
The collaborative effort embodies the town’s deep sense of community and respect for those who sacrificed their lives, combining creativity with remembrance through local craftsmanship.
Loughborough’s handcrafted poppy displays unite art and remembrance, symbolizing the community’s heartfelt tribute to the fallen on this year’s Remembrance Sunday.
