Florida favorite Will Richard unveils his new nickname with Golden State

Will Richard Finds NBA Home with Golden State Warriors

Since departing Florida, Will Richard has established himself in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors. Though picked in the second round, he quickly earned regular playing time under coach Steve Kerr and emerged as one of the early surprises of the 2025 NBA Draft.

New Nickname Revealed

As Richard's role expands, fans are discovering more about him. In a recent interview with San Francisco's 95.7 The Game, he shared the nickname his teammates have given him:

They call Al [Horford] 'Big Gator,' so I'm 'Baby Gator' right now. It's either 'Rook' or 'Baby Gator.'

Connection with Al Horford

This nickname highlights an interesting link to former Florida star Al Horford, who joined Golden State after playing in Boston. The veteran Horford is in his 19th NBA season, while Richard is just starting his career. Notably, Horford and the Gators won their first national championship in 2006, when Richard was only 3 years old.

Playing with Experienced Teammates

Richard also commented on the experience of playing alongside established stars like Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler:

I grew up watching these guys. To be able to witness their greatness every game, every practice, it's a blessing to be a part of. I take a step back every day and realize how thankful I am to be in this situation.

Six games into his NBA career, Richard averages 5.7 points per game in approximately 13 minutes per contest.
