Laila Ali firmly dismissed a $15 million offer to fight Claressa Shields, ending years of conflict between the two boxing champions. On her podcast "Laila Ali KO" on October 30, Ali made it clear she will never face Shields in the ring or anywhere else.
Ali cited Shields' repeated disrespect and false accusations as the main reasons for refusing the fight. She said Shields had questioned her boxing legacy and even disrespected her late father, Muhammad Ali, by using his name against her.
“Absolutely not. After years of blatant lies and vile disrespect, making unsolicited negative remarks about me, questioning the legitimacy of my boxing legacy, and having the audacity to cross the line by disrespecting my deceased father, trying to use his name to discredit his daughter.”
Ali, 47, emphasized that Shields' actions went too far and that the damage cannot be repaired. She stated Shields will not be rewarded with a fight or any other opportunity linked to her.
“She will not be rewarded with the opportunity to share the ring with me or anything else.”
Laila Ali has decisively ended the possibility of a boxing match with Claressa Shields, citing continuous disrespect and the misuse of her father’s legacy as irreparable offenses.
