A full-size, hand-built reproduction Spitfire MK IX will serve as a powerful symbol of courage and sacrifice this Remembrance Sunday, honoring those who have served in past and present conflicts.
The only hand-built, full-scale Spitfire MK IX reproduction will be exhibited in Millennium Place, Durham City, on Sunday, 9 November, from 9:00am to 2:00pm.
In 2025, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, Durham’s Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Andrew Harrison, sought a special way to honor these historic milestones.
With assistance from Squadron Leader (Retired) James A Cowan MBE and Simply Spitfire, the reproduction aircraft was secured as a poignant tribute.
The Spitfire will be part of the annual Remembrance Parade route in Durham City, which takes place from 10:00am to noon on the same day.
“A unique reproduction Spitfire will act as a striking symbol of the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served in conflicts past and present this Remembrance Sunday.”
