Mark Zahra delivered an outstanding performance on Victoria Derby Day, claiming four wins including the prestigious Victoria Derby and the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington. The event drew a crowd of 86,112 on a bright spring afternoon.

Speaking to Nine, Zahra reflected on his milestone day while carrying his boxed trophies. With confidence rising after two early victories, he singled out his ride on Tentyris as particularly strong before sealing triumph with Observer, who led from start to finish.
“I can’t even remember what I won on first... it was good to have two winners on the board. So full of confidence heading into Tentyris. And I thought he was my best ride today. He’s just improved and improved and won the big one, you start to think, can I do it again? And then Observer just led all the way.”
Family Reactions
When asked about his wife Elyse, Zahra said she was thrilled but reminded her that the spring carnival had just begun and they needed to stay composed for the days ahead.
“I just tell her I’ll meet you in the yard after. But she’s pretty fired up about today. I’ve told her it’s day one for the carnival, so we’ve just got to relax and get through the rest of the week first.”
He also shared a lighthearted note about his daughter, who seems more captivated by her favorite show than the races themselves, but still enjoys when he brings home trophies.
“She asked if I had a winner or not, but she’d rather watch Gabby’s Dollhouse than the races at the moment. She does like when I bring her home a trophy.”
