First and Last Bakery, LLC, based in Hartford, CT, is recalling certain tomato sauce products following a health risk alert from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection.
The sauces were released in Connecticut and Massachusetts through Big Y and possibly other retailers between September 22, 2025, and October 28, 2025. Production and sales of these products are currently suspended to comply with regulatory standards.
The recalled items come in 26 FL OZ jars with specific brand names and UPC codes.
The products did not undergo an approved scheduled process or proper evaluation. Improper processing of acidified or low-acid foods can lead to the production of toxins by Clostridium botulinum, which causes botulism.
Botulism, a potentially fatal foodborne illness, may cause symptoms such as general weakness, dizziness, double vision, difficulty speaking or swallowing, breathing problems, muscle weakness, abdominal swelling, and constipation.
No cases of illness related to these products have been reported so far.
Summary: First and Last Bakery recalls specific tomato sauce jars after a potential botulism risk was identified due to inadequate processing, with no illnesses reported to date.
