Deputy Liberal leader Sussan Ley has stayed reserved about criticism targeting her leadership, asserting that the Liberal Party remains united despite internal skepticism from some members. Recent remarks by backbenchers suggest her support within the Coalition could be weakening.
The party aims to address disputes over an emissions target and finalize a new energy policy platform in the coming week. These divisions follow months of internal tension that have tested Ley’s leadership.
“I am just going to say at the moment that I cannot support the way things are,” said Liberal senator Sarah Henderson, when asked if she backed Ley to lead the opposition.
During a press conference in Canberra, Ley declined to respond to speculation about her position, stating:
“I value every single member of my team, including Senator Henderson. In order to interrogate her views, you should probably ask her, I’m not commenting on commentary.”
She reaffirmed her stance that the Liberal Party remains “united through its values.”
Sussan Ley downplays party tensions, affirming unity as criticism over her leadership grows within the Liberals.
