Liberal senator Sarah Henderson expressed doubts about the Coalition's future with Sussan Ley leading the party. As tensions rise over net-zero emissions targets, Henderson admitted she struggled to support the current direction under Ley's leadership.
After weeks of internal conflict and leadership speculation, Henderson said ahead of an important party meeting,
“I do have to say really honestly, I do think Sussan is losing support,”but she also added,
“But I do believe in miracles.”
When asked if the party can recover with Ley in control, Henderson hesitated before affirming she could not back the current state of affairs, stating:
“I'm not in the business of throwing anyone under the bus, I'm stating the bleeding obvious, we are in a dire situation.”
She also apologized for the party's turmoil:
“The infighting has been terrible and I'm terribly sorry about what's been going on in the Liberal Party.”
Despite her criticism, Henderson acknowledged Ley's move to call a series of meetings on energy and climate policy as a
“significant step forward.”Henderson was removed from the shadow cabinet after Ley became leader.
Sarah Henderson expressed serious concerns about Sussan Ley's leadership amid party divisions but still recognized efforts to advance energy policy discussions.
