Senior Liberal Senator Sarah Henderson has voiced concerns over Sussan Ley's leadership amid growing internal tensions in the Coalition about net zero policies. Senator Henderson stated she “cannot support the way things are” ahead of the upcoming partyroom debate on net zero emissions.
In recent weeks, the Liberal Party has faced increasing pressure to clarify its position on net zero, especially after the Nationals abandoned the policy. A partyroom showdown is scheduled for Sunday, November 16, to decide the Coalition's final stance.
Speaking with Sky News Australia host Peter Stefanovic, Henderson, who opposes the net zero policy, indicated that Ley's support within the partyroom is weakening.
"I can't pretend things are good. We've had a dire Newspoll result, a primary vote of just 24 per cent. Things are not traveling well," Senator Henderson said.
"I do have to say, really honestly, I do think Sussan is losing support, but I do believe in miracles, we can turn things around. I don't support things the way they are at the moment."
The decision next week will determine the Coalition’s official position on net zero, potentially reshaping the party’s future direction and leadership dynamics.
Summary: Senator Sarah Henderson questions Sussan Ley’s leadership amid poor polling and internal division over net zero, signaling challenges ahead for the Liberal Party.
