UTSA to Face South Florida in Second Straight Thursday Night Appearance

UTSA celebrates its 15th football season in 2025. As one of the newer FBS programs, the Roadrunners are now in their third year competing in the American Athletic Conference. The program began from the ground up, with a practice year in 2010, followed by their first season as an FCS Independent in 2011.

After that inaugural season, UTSA joined the Western Athletic Conference in 2012, before moving to Conference USA in 2013. They became a full FBS member starting with the 2014 season.

Early Achievements and Milestones

In their first season, UTSA made NCAA modern-era history by attracting 56,743 fans to their debut game against Northeastern State and averaging 35,521 spectators over six home games that same year.

The program’s first bowl appearance came in 2016 at the New Mexico Bowl, only six seasons after their debut. The following year, UTSA claimed its first-ever win over a Big 12 team, defeating Baylor 17-10.

Recent Success

In 2021, the Roadrunners achieved another milestone with a road victory over Illinois from the Big Ten Conference. They went on to win their first conference championship with a 49-42 victory against WKU, finishing that season with a 12-2 record and another bowl appearance.

UTSA captured back-to-back league championships in 2022 with a 48-27 win over North Texas and closed that season 11-3, marking their third consecutive bowl trip.
