Reports indicate that David Kampf, forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs, has stepped away from the Marlies as he considers his future within the organization.
On the Saturday edition of Headlines and the Monday episode of 32 Thoughts the Podcast, Elliotte Friedman revealed Kampf’s growing frustration over not playing in the NHL.
“I don’t know exactly what was said…but Kampf did leave players with the Marlies [Leafs’ AHL affiliate] with the impression that he was going to terminate his contract.”
Friedman explained that Kampf took some time off from the team, which might lead to a contract termination.
During a game the Marlies played in Chicago, Kampf was notably absent. Friedman noted:
“The Toronto Marlies are playing tonight in Chicago in the American Hockey League, and he’s not with them. I was told there’s a possibility he could play tomorrow, but I think that’s unlikely.”
Friedman pointed out the challenging roster and salary cap situation within the Maple Leafs, which has contributed to Kampf’s frustrations and decision to step away temporarily.
