Jim Belushi Recalls a Favorite Moment of His Early Career in Hollywood — and How It Involves Late Brother John

Jim Belushi shared in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE his favorite memory from the early years of his Hollywood career — a time that deeply involved his late brother, John Belushi.

Remembering John Belushi’s Legacy

John Belushi was a celebrated comedian and musician best known for his work on "Saturday Night Live" and in the iconic film "The Blues Brothers." He passed away in 1982 at the age of 33, leaving behind a lasting mark on both comedy and music.

A Glimpse into the Early Days

While attending the premiere of Song Sung Blue at AFI Fest in Los Angeles on October 26, Jim, now 71, reflected on the joyful start of their careers. He remembered the energy and excitement that surrounded those formative Hollywood years.

“Those were the days we were full of hope, creativity, and laughter,” Jim said. “Working together with John was truly special.”

The Birth of 'The Blues Brothers'

In 1975, John became a breakout comedy star as part of the original "Saturday Night Live" cast. Alongside Dan Aykroyd, he developed the characters Joliet Jake Blues and Elwood Blues into what would become the legendary act — The Blues Brothers.

Their musical debut came on "SNL" in April 1978, and later that same year, after forming a full band, they opened for Steve Martin during his residency at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. The performance solidified their transition from a comedy sketch to a musical phenomenon.
