Actor Simu Liu is set to return as Shang-Chi in the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. In a recent interview, Liu discussed the project directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, emphasizing the scale and emotional depth of the movie.
“There are just so many actors in it, and getting to work with those people as peers is really incredible because I grew up watching so many of them.”
Liu will appear alongside Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, and Florence Pugh as Yelena, among others.
“It feels, in many ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies. And I think there’s something really fun about that.”
He highlighted that the film celebrates fans who have always identified with heroes who stand out from the crowd.
“It’s for all the misfits, the weirdos, and the underdogs who grew up reading comic books and believing there was hope for them — that being different didn’t mean they couldn’t belong.”
Avengers: Doomsday is directed by the Russo brothers from a screenplay by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely.
