Presiding Bishop Gérald Caussé has been named the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The announcement was made Thursday in Salt Lake City.
At 62, Elder Caussé has served as the church’s presiding bishop for the past 11 years. He received his apostolic calling and ordination on Thursday, conducted by President Dallin H. Oaks along with members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
“I've always had a testimony of Jesus Christ. He's always been in the center of my life. And I know he's our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That's the best responsibility or stewardship we might have in our lives.”
— Elder Gérald Caussé
Born in Bordeaux, France, Elder Caussé became the third presiding bishop born outside the United States and the first apostle for whom English is a second language. He previously served as a counselor in the Presiding Bishopric and as a General Authority Seventy.
On August 5, 1986, he married Valérie Babin in the Bern Switzerland Temple. His church responsibilities have taken him and his family to live in both Germany and the United States.
