Director Edgar Wright shared that his new adaptation of Stephen King's The Running Man hides a surprising Easter egg connected to the Brolin family. The film stars Josh Brolin as the villain Dan Killian, but Wright noted that another member of the Brolin family also appears unintentionally.
“Josh Brolin is not the only Brolin in this movie. By complete coincidence, his dad is in it as well,” said Wright in an interview with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan.
According to Wright, James Brolin, Josh’s father, appears in the film through a brief scene taken from the 1972 thriller Skyjacked, in which James played a hijacker. Interestingly, Wright explained that the inclusion of James Brolin's clip happened before Josh had even been cast in The Running Man.
“We wrote that in and cleared the clip—all before Josh Brolin was cast as Killian. Once he joined the project, I told him, ‘Hey, your dad’s in the movie too.’”
Wright described the coincidence as a happy accident, creating an unexpected connection between father and son within the same film universe.
Edgar Wright revealed a hidden Easter egg in The Running Man involving both Josh and James Brolin, turning a random casting choice into a meaningful family link.
