Edgar Wright recently held a private screening of his film The Running Man on the Paramount lot. The event attracted a distinguished group of filmmakers, including Taika Waititi, Jordan Peele, Ti West, Joseph Kosinski, Barry Jenkins, JT Mollner, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Joe Dante, and Walter Hill.
A script for the sequel Baby Driver 2 is now finished. However, it remains unclear if the original cast, including lead Ansel Elgort, will return. Rumors suggest Jon Bernthal may have an expanded role in the follow-up.
Wright confirmed on the Discourse Podcast:
“There is a script for ‘Baby Driver 2.’ That is something that actually exists. But most filmmaking depends on factors beyond you — timing, financing, who’s available. You’re not always completely in control of those things.”
The next project for Wright after The Running Man is uncertain. Options include a Barbarella remake starring Sydney Sweeney or the long-anticipated Baby Driver 2 sequel. The original Baby Driver film was a financial success, grossing $227 million on a $34 million budget.
Edgar Wright’s “Baby Driver 2” script is complete, and while its production depends on various factors, Wright’s recent screening of “The Running Man” drew prominent directors, highlighting his ongoing influence in film.
