Calgary experienced a foggy Friday morning that transitioned into snowfall, though the snow is not expected to linger. Snow began falling in the downtown area around 8:30 a.m., initially moving south from the northern parts of the city.
The day started with fog, which prompted an advisory from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) about poor visibility. The agency also warned of rain or snow with a chance of freezing rain.
“Precipitation was in the forecast for the morning hours, but our temperature stayed just cool enough to keep most of that mix as snow. Once it’s gone, it’s pretty much gone, and as we enter the 9 o’clock hour, we can expect most of that to fully back away,” said Kevin Stanfield, meteorologist at 660 NewsRadio.
The high temperature for the day was predicted to reach 3°C, which would likely cause any new snow to melt quickly.
“Our high today hits 3 C, so any area that caught a new coat will likely see that melt off too,” Stanfield added.
Drivers were urged to exercise caution on the roads during these conditions. For ongoing updates on news, traffic, and weather, listeners were encouraged to tune into 660 NewsRadio or CityNews 24/7.
In Calgary, a foggy morning led to brief snow that is expected to clear quickly, with mild temperatures causing any accumulation to melt soon.
