A retired STARS air ambulance helicopter has been relocated to The Hangar Flight Museum in Calgary. The Airbus BK117 aircraft, introduced in 1985, was part of the original fleet that launched the non-profit air ambulance service.
Serving missions across Western Canada, the helicopter was retired from active duty after many years of service.
“Now, in our 40th year, this historic aircraft stands as a symbol of the remarkable contributions made by the community, for the community,” STARS stated in a Facebook post.
Over 100 donors helped raise more than $900,000 for STARS operations through a fundraising campaign. Their names are now displayed on the helicopter.
The Hangar Flight Museum expressed in a separate Facebook post that it is honoured to be the aircraft’s permanent home, describing it as “an inspiring legacy” that will preserve STARS’ history for future generations.
Summary: The original STARS helicopter has found a lasting home at Calgary’s Hangar Flight Museum, symbolizing decades of community support and lifesaving service.
