Cochrane may host the 2026 Ironman 70.3 Calgary triathlon if town council grants approval. Platinum Racing Events, the organizers, proposed relocating the event to Cochrane after Harmony Park became unavailable due to construction.
The two-day event is set for July 25–26, 2026, with preliminary setup starting on July 24. Now entering its 17th year, the competition is expected to attract about 1,100 athletes from up to 26 countries, accompanied by 500 spectators and 300 volunteers. According to organizers, about 40% of competitors will travel over 300 kilometres to participate.
If approved, the triathlon will include a 1.9-kilometre swim at Ghost Lake, a 90-kilometre cycling segment along rural routes north of Cochrane, and a 21.1-kilometre run through the town’s pathway network and river corridor. A relay option for teams of two or three athletes will also be available.
The Historic Cochrane Ranche has been proposed as the event’s headquarters.
"Now in its 17th year, Ironman 70.3 Calgary continues to attract hundreds of athletes and visitors to the region," organizers said.
The proposed move of Ironman 70.3 Calgary to Cochrane could bring international athletes, tourism, and community engagement if council approval is granted.
