Alberta Health Services (AHS) has officially lifted the blue-green algae advisory for Eagle Lake, located southeast of Strathmore, as of Wednesday.
The agency reported that recent cooler temperatures have lowered the lake’s water temperature enough to minimize health risks associated with cyanobacteria, commonly called blue-green algae.
Eagle Lake, situated in Wheatland County about a 45-minute drive east of Calgary, had previously been under a public warning advising residents and visitors to avoid direct contact with the algae.
Officials advised against using untreated lake water for drinking or cooking, emphasizing that boiling does not eliminate the toxins.
AHS recommends always sourcing clean water for people, pets, and livestock whenever algae blooms are visible.
