Trick-or-treaters had no trouble finding candy this Halloween on St. John. Many enjoyed collecting treats at Mongoose Junction and the Trunk-or-Treat event held in the gravel lot in Cruz Bay.
Parents accompanied their children down the main staircase at Mongoose Junction, where Raven Phillips of Bajo El Sol handed out candy. Among the children was Curious George (Finn) with his mother, Willow Melamet.
“Those who arrived before 5 p.m. received free books from the Little Free Library.”
Jeannie Bishop distributed books while Phillips observed. A young fisherman was especially drawn to the table filled with books. Janet Cook-Rutnik, who assisted with the book giveaway, dressed up as a character from one of her favorite Eric Carle books.
Photographer Yelena Rogers and her dog posed for a photo as they left Mongoose Junction.
As daylight faded, most children made their way to the gravel lot for the Trunk-or-Treat event. Adults created spooky scenes inside their car trunks, including one elaborate display by Jennifer Costanzo and Tessa Chilson from Moms Who Trunk.
Author's summary: Kids celebrated Halloween joyfully on St. John, enjoying candy, free books, and creative trunk displays that brought the community together in Cruz Bay.
