A Calgary man, Randall Arsenault, 58, faces charges following an investigation by Cochrane RCMP related to a suspected overdose death earlier this month in the Mînî Thnî area of the Stoney Nakoda Nations.
Arsenault has been charged with trafficking a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The investigation started in early October after Cochrane RCMP responded to a suspected overdose death in Mînî Thnî. The RCMP's Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) collaborated with the Calgary Police Service’s Gang Suppression Team to identify the drug source, leading them to Arsenault.
He was arrested in Calgary on October 29. Officers seized approximately 69.5 grams of fentanyl and methamphetamine during the arrest.
“The CRU launched an investigation to identify the potential source of the drugs involved, which eventually led to the Calgary suspect.”
Arsenault’s arrest highlights ongoing efforts to tackle drug-related offenses in the region.
