Those planning a trip to the Rockies this weekend should prepare for more than just hiking—winter gear might be necessary. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a snowfall warning for Alberta’s mountain regions, with heavy, wet snow expected in Banff and near Lake Louise from Friday evening through Saturday night.
Forecasters predict between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow could fall over 24 hours, creating hazardous travel conditions.
“Travel will likely be challenging. Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow,” reported ECCC.
Travellers are urged to plan ahead and drive cautiously. Officials recommend allowing extra time, keeping headlights on, reducing speed, and maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles.
For those interested in Alberta’s November forecast, detailed weather updates, watches, and warnings can be found on the ECCC weather information portal.
