Edie Falco, known for her Emmy-winning performances in The Sopranos and Nurse Jackie, expressed a desire to take on the role of a female superhero, describing it as an exciting new challenge.
Falco thrives on playing multifaceted, layered characters and has never faced a role she couldn’t manage. She stated,
“Never have I said I can’t do that. You sort of find a way you can go and see, because you’re able to know you have to stop before it is dangerous. And I’ve been in therapy for 7,000 years.”
She explained that such complicated roles fuel her passion for acting, adding, “I look for those [complicated characters]. That’s what makes this exciting. To play someone with a less complicated life is less interesting.”
At 62, Falco feels fortunate to have portrayed a broad spectrum of complex female characters. She observed,
“I’ve been very lucky that kind of since I started working, female characters are getting more interesting and complicated, I feel like I’m riding this wave of really interesting and complicated female characters.”
She also believes she benefited from avoiding early typecasting, saying, “I imagine if you’re only ever playing young, beautiful, sexy women, it’s going to get harder as you get older.”
Looking ahead, Falco is intrigued by the possibility of playing a political figure, joking, “Maybe I can get something out of my system.”
Steve Schirripa, also from The Sopranos, has shared his perspective on the show's legacy and his personal connections to Las Vegas in his career.
