England manager Thomas Tuchel has handed a debut senior call-up to Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, 22, as he finalizes his squad for the final World Cup qualifying matches.
The Guernsey-born player has impressed both for club and for England’s Under-21 side, where he played a major role in winning the European Championship this past summer.
Returning to the squad are Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Manchester City’s Phil Foden, while Everton’s Jack Grealish and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins miss out this time.
“Alex deserves to be with us. I first saw him closely in the Under-21 Euros, where he was excellent together with Elliot Anderson in central midfield and played a huge part in the title win,” said Tuchel.
“Since then, he has stepped up and become a regular starter for Bournemouth, who continue to perform beyond expectations in the league. He’s earned this call-up, and we believe he will show his talent and personality.”
“I just wanted to say thank you,” said Scott in a video shared by Bournemouth. “It’s a really proud moment for me. I can’t wait, and I want to thank all of you for helping make it possible.”
Alex Scott’s first senior England call-up under Thomas Tuchel crowns his rapid rise from Under-21 success and consistent Premier League performances with Bournemouth.
