While Google’s Stadia fades into the past, cloud gaming continues to evolve, with Sony pushing it further through the PlayStation Portal handheld device.
The PlayStation Portal is a handheld similar to the Steam Deck but does not operate independently. It streams games directly from a PlayStation 5 console, requiring the user to own a PS5 for functionality.
Sony has officially enabled cloud gaming for all PlayStation Portal owners starting today. This update allows players to access select digital PS5 games from their own libraries without needing to connect to a PS5 via Remote Play.
"The update also adds some new features such as 3D Audio support and a passcode lock, as well as a network status page (that really should have been available all along)."
The subscription required for full cloud gaming access is $18 per month.
Sony has significantly enhanced the PlayStation Portal with cloud gaming access, new features, and security improvements, broadening its appeal beyond Remote Play users.
