Edie Falco expressed interest in taking on a female superhero role, viewing it as an enjoyable new challenge.
Best known for her Emmy-winning work in The Sopranos and Nurse Jackie, Falco thrives on portraying multi-layered, complex characters and has never faced a role she couldn't manage.
“Never have I said I can’t do that. You sort of find a way you can go and see, because you’re able to know you have to stop before it is dangerous. And I’ve been in therapy for 7,000 years.”
She actively seeks challenging roles, saying less complicated characters hold less interest for her.
At 62, Falco feels fortunate to have portrayed a wide variety of complex women throughout her career.
“I’ve been very lucky that kind of since I started working, female characters are getting more interesting and complicated, I feel like I’m riding this wave of really interesting and complicated female characters.”
She believes avoiding early typecasting has helped her longevity.
“I imagine if you’re only ever playing young, beautiful, sexy women, it’s going to get harder as you get older.”
