The Balearic island of Ibiza, already prominent in the unscripted programming sector, is now focusing on attracting more fiction productions. The island offers a 30% tax incentive and benefits from the growing local audiovisual industry along with strong logistical support from the Ibiza Film Commission, led by director Noemí Castro.
Noemí Castro highlights Ibiza's global recognition beyond its famous beaches and nightlife. The island is striving to establish itself as a prime location for major audiovisual projects.
“Everyone associates the island with partying, but there is also a powerful audiovisual industry that is growing more and more, and that is something we want to convey.”
Ibiza attracts between 50 and 100 audiovisual projects annually, including advertisements, films, and TV shows. While the island typically hosts factual and documentary productions, recent fiction projects such as two episodes of Machos Alfa (Netflix) and the British film Rise of the Footsoldier: Ibiza have been filmed there.
“Ibiza is one of the most recognised brands in the world. So, for a factual or other type of programme, just by saying that you are in Ibiza, your production already has more appeal.”
Ibiza’s strength lies in combining attractive incentives with a well-established industry and its globally renowned image, making it an increasingly popular spot for diverse audiovisual productions.
Author’s summary: Ibiza leverages its 30% tax incentive and growing audiovisual sector to attract fiction shoots, aiming to expand beyond its established unscripted production fame.
