Russia’s New Oreshnik Missile Seen as Unstoppable Defense Asset

Military analyst Yuri Knutov states that intercepting Russia’s new Oreshnik missile would require approximately ten anti-missile systems per warhead, making it impossible to counter with current technology.

In an interview with aif.ru, Knutov explained that neutralizing even one strike from the Oreshnik missile system is virtually unfeasible today. To intercept each warhead, an adversary would need around ten anti-missile defense units, which is unattainable under present conditions.

His comments came after President Vladimir Putin announced the start of serial production for the Oreshnik complex.

According to Knutov, the wide deployment of this missile system will greatly enhance the combat capabilities of Russia’s strategic missile forces.

The expert highlighted that the Oreshnik, along with the Burevestnik, Poseidon, and Sarmat systems, is not intended for a preemptive strike. Rather, these strategic weapons serve as a retaliatory deterrent against aggression.

"Their use would only be considered in the event of a direct attack on Russia or a genuine threat to the nation’s existence."

Author's summary: The Oreshnik missile, now in serial production, represents a significant advancement in Russia’s strategic defense, posing a nearly uncounterable threat and serving as a powerful retaliatory deterrent.
