Ethnikos Piraeus and Chania secured their places in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Water Polo Cup following intense opening-round matches.
In Nea Smyrni, Ethnikos defeated Panionios 11–9 in a key first-round encounter. The Piraeus team maintained control for much of the game, establishing a 7–3 lead early in the third quarter. Despite a 3–0 comeback effort by Panionios, Ethnikos held on to secure victory and will face the defending champions Vouliagmeni in the next round.
Chania narrowly beat the home team Ilioupoli 9–8 in a thrilling match. The decisive moment came when Kiki Stratidaki scored with just over two minutes left, ensuring the Cretan team’s progression. Chania will meet PAOK in the quarterfinals.
