PITTSBURGH — The Pitt men’s basketball team overcame an early deficit with a decisive 14-3 run to close out the first half, ultimately defeating Youngstown State 74-59 in their 2025-26 season opener at the Petersen Events Center.
Youngstown State initially controlled the game, leading for much of the early stages. However, the Panthers took their first lead at 20-19 on a three-point play by Cameron Corhen.
Although the Penguins responded with a 6-0 run, Pitt’s defense intensified, allowing them to seize control. Over the final 5:34 of the first half, Youngstown State managed just 1-of-7 shooting and committed three turnovers, enabling Pitt to close with a 14-3 run and a 34-28 halftime lead.
In the second half, Pitt extended their lead to double digits, though Youngstown State narrowed the gap to four points at 54-50 with a six-point run.
