Wendy's plans to close about 300 stores across the United States in the coming months. This follows a previous announcement to shut down 150 locations by late 2024.
As one of the top ten fast-food chains in New Jersey, Wendy's has 145 locations statewide, including many in South Jersey. However, it is unclear if any of the closures will affect Wendy's restaurants in New Jersey, as the company has not revealed specific store locations targeted for shutdown.
"When we look at the system today, we have some restaurants that do not elevate the brand and are a drag from a franchisee financial performance perspective," said Interim Wendy's CEO Ken Cook during a quarterly earnings call on November 7. "The goal is to address and fix those restaurants."
Cook also noted his intention to preserve some locations despite the closures, which are expected to begin later this year.

Wendy's will close upwards of 350 stores nationwide, including the upcoming 300-store closures separate from the 150 announced earlier.
Summary: Wendy's is set to close hundreds of stores nationwide, but it remains uncertain if any New Jersey locations will be affected, as the company aims to optimize its franchise performance.
