Miss Piggy is getting a Disney movie, produced by Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone

Miss Piggy to Star in New Disney Movie

From chorus pig to feminist icon, Miss Piggy is set to get her own Disney film. Golden Globe winner Jennifer Lawrence revealed she is co-producing the movie alongside fellow Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone.

Production Details

Lawrence shared the news during an interview on the Las Culturistas Podcast:

“I don’t know if I can announce this, but I’m just gonna. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie.”

The script is being written by Cole Escola, known for his role in the acclaimed Broadway comedy Oh, Mary! When asked if she and Stone would act in the film, Lawrence responded,

“I think so... it’s [expletive] up that we haven’t been in a movie together already.”

Inspiration Behind the Film

During an appearance on the Tonight Show, Lawrence explained that the idea emerged during the pandemic lockdown amid discussions around cancel culture:

“She said, ‘Miss Piggy is a feminist icon. It would be so funny if Miss Piggy got canceled.’ Now that is not the plot necessarily, but it got the wheels turning.”

Miss Piggy’s Legacy

Miss Piggy started as a chorus pig on The Muppet Show in the mid-1970s and later evolved into a more prominent character through the late 1970s and early 1980s. She is famously known for her on-again, off-again romance with Kermit the Frog.
