Paul Rodgers pulls out of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony

Paul Rodgers Withdraws from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony

Paul Rodgers, the lead singer of Bad Company, has withdrawn from this Saturday's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Los Angeles, where the band is set to be inducted. Drummer Simon Kirke will represent the band, accept the award, and perform at the event.

Rodgers' Health Concerns

Rodgers, formerly of Free, explained his absence is due to health reasons:

“My hope was to be at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony and to perform for the fans, but at this time I have to prioritise my health. I have no problem singing, it's the stress of everything else. Simon, along with some outstanding musicians, will be stepping in for me - guaranteed to rock.”

Simon Kirke on the Reunion

In contrast, Kirke expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming performance and reunion last month:

“We're going to play, and whatever Paul chooses is fine by me! Just to play with him again is going to be a real thrill for me. I missed playing with the band. I miss playing particularly with Paul. He's such a wonderful singer.”

Rodgers’ Stroke History and Ceremony Plans

Rodgers has experienced serious health issues, having suffered two major strokes and 11 minor ones over the past decade. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he shared his feelings about the event:

“I may well perform at the ceremony, but I’m a little bit nervous. If we’ve got to make a speech, I’ll be quite honest. I’m not used to really making speeches of any nature, but I’ll be ok.”

The ceremony remains a significant event for Bad Company, despite Rodgers' absence from the performance.

Summary: Paul Rodgers has pulled out of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony due to health concerns, with Simon Kirke stepping in to perform and accept the award on behalf of Bad Company.
