The episode opened with a New York City mayoral debate featuring Miles Teller as Andrew Cuomo, Ramy Youssef as Zohran Mamdami, and Shane Gillis as Curtis Sliwa. The sketch stood out as the funniest cold open of the season and possibly Gillis’s best performance on SNL.
Despite the unnecessary inclusion of James Austin Johnson’s Trump, his one-liner brought laughs:
“I have good brain. I took a cognitive test and I did so well that they immediately gave me an MRI.”
The reviewer expressed hope that Mamdami’s potential win might lead to more appearances from Ramy Youssef.
Score: 7 out of 10
Miles Teller delivered a solid monologue with good energy. Following the loss of his home in the Pallisades fire, he appeared more grounded. Interestingly, he didn’t mention his upcoming film Eternity, premiering later this month.
Score: 5 out of 10
The first sketch after the monologue introduced another game show: What Did I Do Last Night?, where hungover participants try to recall their wild evenings. While the concept had potential, the result felt flat and predictable. The season’s writers seem to be struggling with creating genuine narrative twists.
Score: 5 out of 10
Teller portrayed both Property Brothers in a sketch involving a White House renovation. Although inventive, the skit felt more bleak than funny, landing awkwardly between satire and realism.
Score: 6 out of 10
This segment turned out surprisingly entertaining, managing to exceed expectations despite its simple premise.
The episode balanced humor and mixed tones, with Shane Gillis stealing the spotlight in an unexpectedly strong cold open and Miles Teller offering a grounded, sincere performance.
